Lewis Turco to receive Robert Fitzgerald Prosody Award

Lewis Turco will receive the Robert Fitzgerald Prosody Award at the West Chester University Poetry Conference, “Exploring Form and Narrative,” at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2008. Following the presentation of the award Tom Cable will interview Mr. Turco during the panel time set aside for the Fitzgerald celebration.

Three poetry prizes have been, or will soon be established in the poet’s name. The first annual undergraduate Lewis Putnam Turco Formal Poetry Award, to celebrate the 40th year of the founding, in 1968 by Lewis Turco, of the Creative Writing Program at the State University of New York College at Oswego, was awarded during Quest Day, at the Oswego Campus Center on 23 April 2008.

Two other prizes are to be established soon in Mr. Turco’s name: the Windmill Poets’ Lewis Turco Award of the Poetry Society of Oklahoma Annual Contest, and the National Federation of State Poetry Societies Lewis Turco Prize sponsored by the Windmill Poets of the Poetry Society of Oklahoma. Lewis Turco is currently serving as Honorary Chancellor of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies.
