ON CANNIBALISM

A dog adores

its owner

like a tall god.

If the owner dies,

after a few days of

precious hunger,

the dog would

consume the body.

I think if you died

I would eat you.

There are cultures

where they eat

revered elders

as a ritual honor

to say you live

in me now.

You think I want

to honor you?

I want you inside

me. To keep you.

Sweet and desperate

preservation.

I don’t want

some simple kiss.

I want my teeth

on bone.

No rituals now.

My hunger sharpens.

You tall god.

You tempter.

I am starving.
