Shawnte Orion

TWANG OF MYTHOLOGY

1897 built a Parthenon in Nashville

The Grand Ole Athens of the South

an exact replica with no drums

where Athena is proud to be

a thunderbolt miner’s daughter

but envies the glory and fame

of the great speckled sphinx

If it weren’t for ill fate

Oedipus would have no fate at all

Waiting for honey to ferment

pieces of you fall

for daisy duke muses

walkin the line dance after midnight

drunk on moonshine ambrosia

until the man in black

ferries you across the Cumberland River

with a coin beneath your tongue

Shawnte Orion attended Paradise Valley Community College for one day, but he is the author of Gravity & Spectacle (a collaboration with photographer Jia Oak Baker from Tolsun Books) and The Existentialist Cookbook (NYQBooks)... Full Profile
